Where would Jesus be born today?

Born in Manger

Where would Jesus be born if He were to come today?  In the slums of Mississippi in the United States, in some poor village in Ethiopia or in the poor areas of Bethlehem?  For these places have humble accommodations.  Whatever Christ did is eternal.  It means there is no question that He is to be born every season.  Looking back of how He was born in Bethlehem gives us a clue of how He will be born today?  The passage from Luke 2: 4-7 reads as follows:

“Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.  So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered.  And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

This manger would have been in a cave where animals were kept so it was the humblest of all places.  And Saint Mary and Joseph journeyed a long distance, through the dark cold nights while Saint Mary is full term pregnant.  And when they got to Bethlehem and knocked at the door of many inns, they were all full.   Today Christ is coming to be born in our hearts.  But will He find a space?  He can only abode in a humble heart.  If we are full of pride, then He goes to the next to see if He can find a place.  But it is so hard to acquire a humble heart.  Just like Saint Mary, we have to endure the cold nights of our life in Christ (what John of the Cross called the dark nights of our souls) and the journey is long to get to that humble place.  Just as Jesus was born in a manger, He will use whatever we give Him, even a little crack in our hearts.  Each season, He will be born in some small special way until He fills our hearts hopefully before we depart.  Jesus Christ our Lord promise to help us along the way.  May He find a space to incarnate in our hearts.  Amen!!!

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
